About Us

Risen Lamb is a multi-cultural Nazarene congregation in Kansas City, KS where everybody feels welcome. Whether you are looking for a unique worship experience or just wanting to have a place where your entire family can get involved, Risen Lamb is the place for you. We love to praise the Lord at Risen Lamb and our worship services are a testimony to that. The atmosphere at our church is relaxed. NEW TO RISEN LAMB

New to Risen LambWe want you to feel comfortable when you visit Risen Lamb Church of the Nazarene. Below is general information to help you feel more at ease when you walk through our doors.What should I wear?The atmosphere at our church is relaxed. You will see people wearing a variety of clothing from a suit and tie to jeans and a t-shirt so dress in the clothes in which you are most comfortable. Where Should I Park?We do not have designated parking because we do not want to single you out as a visitor so feel free to park anywhere in the parking lot. You might be asked to stand up or raise your hand as a visitor, but don't feel you have to do so. Feel free to let us know you are a guest and we will be happy to show you around and get to know you better. What Should I Expect?During the service feel free to sit wherever you are comfortable. During the worship service, words to choruses and hymns are projected onto a big screen at the front of the sanctuary. Feel free to sing out loud and lift up your hands. You will see many others doing the same. There is a brief time to greet those seated near you.A collection is taken during each service to support the work of the church and mission projects. We do not ask that visitors contribute. This offering is for those who regularly attend to support our church.We partake in communion once every month. You do not need to be a member to participate. It is offered to all who are seeking to personally know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.Should I keep my children with me during the service?Children 5 years old through the 6th grade are invited to attend The Children's Church during the service. Nursery and early childhood care are also available. Our ushers will guide you on where to check in your children under the age of 5. If you have questions, at any time during your visit with us, one of our greeters would be happy to assist you. Also check our resources page for more information.

PHILIP FRIDAY | LEAD PASTOR

Well, where do we start? Philip has been all over. Can you believe he moved to North Dakota from Kenya with only a backpack? I mean, he has travelled over 500000 miles but we'd have to verify that to be sure. Having grown up in Kenya, he walked to school for eight years, covering over 20 miles per day. He also walked every where else, sold groceries, ice cream. Philip loves the Lord. He started to preach at the age of 10, for real. But he doesn't remember anything about his first sermon. His dad made him do it and he hasn't stopped ever since. Philip is a graduate of NTS and ANU in Nairobi where he met his wife Adhiambo. You have to come and hear the rest of the stories. He loves talking about them.

TYRONE SEYMOUR | ASSOCIATE, YOUTH PASTOR

Pastor Tyrone is originally from San Diego, Ca and is 33 years old. He has been happily married to Aketia Seymour for nine years and they have two children. Pastor Tyrone has been attending Risen Lamb for three years and has headed the youth ministry for two years. Tyrone received his degree in education from the University of Kansas and has been a teacher for 5 years. Tyrone became a follower of Jesus at a college retreat in 1998 and has been amazed at the many ways God has moved in his life. Pastor Tyrones favorite bible verses are John 3.17 and John 14.20 because they both remind him of the promise privilege and responsibility of living a Jesus led life. His favorite book of the Bible is the book of Hebrews because it is shows what God gave up to seek us, the power of God and the encouragement that we have to live a godly life.

AKETIA SEYMOUR | CHILDREN'S MINISTRY DIRECTOR

Aketia Seymour is Risen Lambs newest Childrens Ministry Director. She is originally from Salina, KS and has come to Kansas City by way of the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She graduated with at Bachelors degree in Nursing and has been a nurse since 2002. She has been happily married to Pastor Tyrone since 2002 as well. They have 2 children. Aketia has been at Risen Lamb since 2008, and has been working with the Childrens Ministry since 2009. Prior to coming to Risen Lamb, she worked with the Childrens ministry at another church for almost 10 years. Aketia loves children and believes that God has called her to this ministry. She strives to be a Proverbs 31 chick and a doer of the Word (James 1:22).

riZen YouthIf we serve a God who is so creative that he can speak a universe into existence, why are youth services so boring? If we claim to believe that God is 100% righteous and perfectly holy, why are so many youth programs focused on fun and not changing the hearts of every person (young and old) that God has allowed to come through the doors? Does God really care about me and what I go through? These are all questions that I have been asked while working with teenagers and young adults in churches and at schools. riZen and riZen youth were established to help young adults find answers to hard questions and to transform young adults from spectators of Christianity to hard core participants (Shout out to Everyday Process!). Our youth group is driven by the following two Bible Verses:1st Timothy 4.12 Don't let anyone make fun of you, just because you are young. Set an example for other followers by what you say and do, as well as by your love, faith, and purity.Hebrews 12.1-2Such a large crowd of witnesses is all around us! So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won't let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us. _ riZen, we firmly believe that God is way to interesting, passionate and amazing to be placed into a box. Even though our sessions come straight from Gods word, our time is never stuffy, fake or boring because you deserve a better experience than that and God deserves to be shown as the wonderful creator that he is. If you need a change in your life, just want to know a little more about this whole God Thing, or are ready to take your walk with Jesus to the next level, come join us _ riZen young adult bible study every 2nd and 4th Wednesday 7:08 p.m. at the Risen Lamb gym. Or, _ riZen youth high school service every Sunday from 9:30- 10:30 in the Risen Lamb gym. riZen r u e 2 riZe?

Childrens Ministry Children's Ministry2 Timothy 3:14-15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.The Childrens Ministry at Risen Lamb strives to serve the youngest members of our church. We have services from nursery aged children all the way up to 5th grade. As we begin a new school year, we want to focus on having our children become more responsible for the information that they are learning. We plan to do that by using LOTS of incentives, games, and encouragement from their peers. Even our littlest ones will be learning about the goodness of God in the way they learn best, through play! Our goal for our children is to have them learn about God and be able to call upon Him whenever they are in need. The Childrens Ministry provides Sunday School, Childrens Church and Vacation Bible School. With various presentations throughout the year, parents will know that their children are learning and growing closer to God each week

Beliefs

These are the beliefs Nazarenes hold to be true:We believe in one God-the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.

We value our Wesleyan-Holiness heritage and believe it to be a way of understanding the faith that is true to Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience. We Are a Holiness People God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness. We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, called by various terms including "entire sanctification" and "baptism with the Holy Spirit"-cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ. Holiness in the life of believers is most clearly understood as ChristlikenessWe Are a Missional People We are a sent people, responding to the call of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go into all the world, witnessing to the Lordship of Christ and participating with God in the building of the Church and the extension of His kingdom (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 6:1). Our mission (a) begins in worship, (b) ministers to the world in evangelism and compassion, (c) encourages believers toward Christian maturity through discipleship, and (d) prepares women and men for Christian service through Christian higher education.
